How to Blur a Face in a Photo (Free, In Your Browser)

Blurring a face before you post a photo takes about ten seconds — and the photo never has to leave your device to do it.

You want to post a photo from an event, a classroom or a family gathering, but not everybody in it agreed to be on the internet. Blurring their faces is the normal, courteous fix, and it does not need an app or an account.

How to do it

Open the blur tool and drop your photo in. Drag a box over the face you want to hide, and it is blurred immediately at full resolution — not just in the preview. Repeat for each face. Adjust the strength slider until the face is genuinely unrecognisable rather than merely softened, then download the PNG.

Blur or pixelate?

Both are offered. A blur reads as more natural in a photograph; pixelation reads as more deliberately censored, which is sometimes exactly the signal you want. For hiding identity, what matters is not which you pick but how strong it is — a light blur on a face can still leave it recognisable to someone who knows the person.

Cover more than the face

People are identifiable from more than facial features. A name badge, a distinctive tattoo, a school logo on a uniform, a car registration in the background — blur those too if the point is anonymity. Take a proper look at the whole frame before you export.

Why in-browser matters here

The tool runs entirely on your device. The photo is drawn to a canvas locally, edited locally, and downloaded locally — it is never uploaded to a server. For a photo containing someone else's face, that is not a minor detail: the safest place for it is the one where it never travelled.
