How to Blur a Licence Plate in a Photo (Free)
Selling a car online means posting photos of it. There's no reason the registration has to be in them.
A registration number is a public-facing identifier that links to a vehicle and, through it, often to a person. Listing sites are full of photos with the plate in plain view. Removing it costs a few seconds and takes away a small but free piece of information about you.
How to do it
Drop the photo into the blur tool, drag a box over the plate, and it is obscured immediately. Push the strength up β plates are high-contrast block characters and survive a light blur surprisingly well, which is exactly what you do not want. Check the result at full size before downloading.
Pixelate is often the better choice here
For blocky, high-contrast text, pixelation at a large block size destroys the character shapes more decisively than a soft blur does. Switch modes in the tool and compare β whichever leaves you unable to read it when you zoom in is the one to use.
Don't forget the other plates
Cars parked behind yours have plates too, and reflections in a shiny bonnet or a showroom window can carry a legible one. Scan the whole frame, not just the obvious spot.
