Resize a Profile Picture to the Exact Size (Free)

Every platform has a different profile picture size, and uploading the wrong one is why your face ends up cropped at the chin.

Profile pictures are displayed as circles on most platforms but stored as squares, which is why an off-centre face gets clipped at the edges. Getting a clean avatar is two steps: square it up with the face centred, then resize to the size the platform actually stores.

Square it first, with room to spare

Crop to a 1:1 square and leave a little space around the head. The visible circle is inscribed inside the square, so the corners get cut — anything tight to the edge disappears. The cropper's Square preset plus a bit of breathing room solves this.

Resize to something generous

Platforms store a fixed size and generate smaller versions from it. Uploading something larger than needed is harmless; uploading something smaller means the platform enlarges it and it looks soft. Around 800×800 to 1000×1000 is comfortably above what any mainstream platform stores.

If your source is small

If the only copy you have is a 300px thumbnail, resizing it up will not help — it will just be a bigger blurry image. Run it through the AI upscaler first to rebuild detail, then resize to your target.

Want an actual round PNG?

Some places accept a transparent PNG and will not add their own circle mask. The cropper has a Circle option that outputs a genuinely round image with a transparent background, which is useful for a website byline or a signature block.
