Crop a Photo for a LinkedIn Banner (Free)

A LinkedIn banner is unusually wide, and your profile photo sits on top of the left side of it. Crop accordingly.

LinkedIn's banner is a wide strip — around 1584×396 — which is a far more extreme ratio than any photo your camera produces. Drop a normal photo in and LinkedIn crops it for you, usually cutting the part you cared about. Cropping deliberately first means you choose what survives.

Crop wide first

Open the cropper, load your image, and use a wide ratio so you can see exactly what is kept. Anything above and below the strip is gone — which on a landscape photo is most of it. Pick the horizontal band that actually reads well on its own.

Leave the lower-left alone

Your profile photo overlaps the banner near the lower left on desktop, and the position shifts on mobile. Anything you place there — a face, a logo, text — will be partly covered on at least one layout. Keep that corner visually quiet and put the interesting content to the right.

Then resize to 1584 wide

After cropping to the right shape, resize the width to 1584 with the ratio locked so the height lands where it should. Uploading at roughly the right size avoids LinkedIn's own resampling, which tends to soften things.
